What I Believe

I believe many chronic diseases are the result of lifestyle factors: chronic stress, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal or immune imbalance, chronic infections, exposure to chemicals, and more.  When I work with you, I try to avoid pigeon-holing you with a specific disease but instead focus on what is working/not working.  In my experience, many symptoms are an expression of the body being out of balance or stretched beyond it’s capacity to heal.  This also means these symptoms are feedback or "signposts" of that imbalance.  My goal is to help identify which body system isn't working well, identify what is contributing to the illness or imbalance, and then suggest treatments to support the body's natural healing process.  Treatment typically includes dietary or lifestyle changes, decreasing exposure to chemicals, antioxidant & digestive support, treating chronic infections or imbalances, regulating hormonal imbalance, and other supportive therapies.

I believe it's more beneficial to support the normal functions of the body than to overpower it with prescription drugs which are designed to "block" things.  Prescription medication is sometimes necessary and life-saving, but is often overused or used solely as a means of suppressing symptoms.

Physicians are only assistants in the healing process, and I enjoy helping others reclaim their health through their own actions.  I want to partner with you with the goal of optimizing and reclaiming a healthier you.

As a great lover of nature and the outdoors, I am grateful to be a longtime resident of Western Washington.

Professional Bio
Dr. Kraft graduated from Bastyr University in Seattle, and is a board-certified Naturopathic Physician and Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of Washington. His practice is located at Trillium Natural Medicine on Bainbridge Island, WA (a short ferry ride from downtown Seattle). An avid researcher, Dr.Kraft's special areas of interest include: thyroid and hormonal imbalance, digestive health and nutrition, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, and mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, autism, and ADD/ADHD.  Much of his research time is centered around nutrition, digestive disorders such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease and IBS, and chronic illness. Dr. Kraft believes food is medicine and has become well-versed in using therapeutic diets to help patients overcome many ailments.

Starting in 2016, Dr Kraft has begun a training program on Autism, ADHD, and other childhood neuro-developmental disorders through the Medical Association of Pediatric Special needs (MAPS).  This is both due to the dramatic rise in autism in the US, and the realization that many of the factors contributing to Autism and similar diseases are the same issues affecting adults with chronic disease. He also wants to help the younger generation of kids to help them in the "new world" they live in, and is excited to continue this training to help kids on their way towards more functional lives.

His acupuncture style is a mixture of classical acupuncture and Dr. Tan's Balance Method. He provides long-term pain relief for back, neck and joint pain without medication to many of his clients. Dr. Kraft enjoys turning skeptics into believers through rapid results.

"I've been to 4 doctors in 2 different countries -- with virtually all the symptoms of Hypothyroidism. My TSH was normal, and, although I had gained over 30 lbs. in just under 3 months -- my weight was still in the upper "normal" range for my height; therefore, not one doctor would agree to test my T3...let alone listen to me! I finally decided to see a Naturopath- and the decision changed my life. From the minute I started to tell Dr. Kraft my symptoms and the changes I had noticed over the last months, I notices one major difference: he was actually listening! My first visit with the doctor was over an hour and a half. He ordered a full blood panel, and assured me that, no matter what, we will find out what is going on with me. My test came back Hypothyroid, and anemic. Dr. Kraft explained to me all my different treatment options, both the natural treatments and conventional treatments and asked ME how I would like to approach treatment! I decided to give the Homeopathic remedy a try first, and later decided to see how I felt on Armour. Dr. Kraft is a lovely person who treats the whole person, not just your lab results. I am moving to LA soon, and still plan to fly back here to Seattle to continue to see Dr. Kraft for my thyroid and any other medical needs."  --R.G.
